Explaining The Relationship Between Sun, Moon and Rising Signs (Bonus Offer At The End)

Zodiac signs don’t make you, but understanding astrology can give you a greater insight on yourself, your partners, your family, the people you meet, and the world’s daily attitude (yes, the world does have a daily attitude). I feel like the people I talk to about astrology always give one of two reactions: either they are super about it and want to talk about everything they know and everything I know about it OR they are major skeptics and the conversation becomes about all that is wrong with astrology. I don’t mind either reactions because I love a good conversation; I also think that there are positives and negative to both reactions.

There are so many contributing factors to what makes our personality, our character, that adds to the way we communicate, the way we look, etc. Most of what creates these parts of ourselves goes off of our beliefs. What we believe to be true in the world, in others, in ourselves. It’s not a bad thing. Ideas and beliefs create. Period. But I feel that the most important thing is to just be aware of what your beliefs are. You have the ability to choose different.

ANTYWAYS… now to sun, moon, and rising signs and their relationship!

First. Really quickly. What is a sun, moon, rising, whatever, what?

Sun Sign:

In astrology, your sun sign goes off your date of birth and describes your general personality. It’s usually the main astrological sign people ascribe to themselves. For example: “Gemini Season!!!” Another example:

Person: What’s your sign?

Me: Gemini

Them: OHHHHHHHHH. THAT MAKES SENSE.

Moon Sign:

Your moon sign goes off of the day, month and year you were born, and is more accurate if you know what time and where you were born. It describes how you feel and your internal self. Example:

“My moon is in Scorpio so I always feel like i’m dying and being rebirthed again.” Oh Scorpios…

Rising Sign:

I feel like the rising sign is the one most people don’t know. To find your accurate rising, you have to know your exact time and place of birth. If you don’t have access to this, it can be difficult to discover your actual rising sign. Your rising sign speaks on how you display yourself, or your persona, to the world. It also describes the ideals you might hold the most value to, or what you are aspiring to be. Example:

Person: What’s your sign?

Me: Gemini. With a Scorpio moon and Pisces rising.

Them: Oh yea, you seem like a Pisces. Always thinking and daydreaming.

The Relationship Between The Three:

When you combine the sun, moon and rising of yourself or someone else, you can begin painting a picture (literally and figuratively) of them, you can start to envision what they might act like, speak like, how they might respond to certain situations. I like to say, if you tell me your sun, moon and rising, I bet I can tell you about yourself. I’m bold lol. While I’ve been fairly accurate when reading someone based on these three signs, I am also aware of the other planetary influence on a person, and that I am basing these readings (and this article) around purely the western understanding of astrology. Now, check this out. Here’s an example of a reading on someone (me!) based off these three signs. I’m going to be as unbiased as possible.

Gemini sun, Scorpio moon, Pisces rising…

I’m someone who might be very detached from others, while also being a very social individual. I probably have an interest in many different activities, many kinds of music, food, etc. and I’m very passionate about everything that I do. I’m also very curious. Constantly trying to find the questions and the answers. However, if i’m not passionate about whatever it is that i’m doing, I won’t be doing it for long! I’m here and gone like a flash of light and laughter. I’m probably a very hard person to read, and while I talk a lot about many different topics including myself, I don’t release any information that I don’t want others to know. My Scorpio moon makes me very particular about where i’m placing my energy and my trust. I also will probably not be someone who could ever fit into a crowd. I’m trying to differentiate myself and also I’m different! What you get one moment, will not be what you get the next.

So now you know me! Hahaaa!

I was able to do this by connecting the characteristics of each sign with their placement in my chart. And once again, this talks about personality, potential thought patterns and potential responses to certain situations, but not character, not what i’m actually interested in, not how I might act in relationships or in conflict. That’s for a different article…
